We used it for a while, but quit because my kids were annoyed by the way the cartoon mouse spoke to them, my oldest in particular was doing middle school work and said he felt like he was being spoken down to.
The older ones were bored and it was difficult to have the program switch up a grade (in fact, the work was the same for my three daughters, three grades apart, 1st, 2nd and 3rd)
For my oldest daughter, she was frustrated because if she didn't understand something, the program has no alternative for explaining a concept, it just repeats the same program over and over, which is not helpful if it didn't explain it in a manner that she understood to begin with.
The quiz factor is strange also, in that even if they fail a quiz, there is no requirement to go back and rework the failed work, they just progress to the next program. I thought that was odd.
I began using Time4Learning for my first grade son in March. I started with the intention of using it for core curriculum, but soon realized that I needed to supplement it. I now occasionally use it for supplemental curriculum. I found that the concepts, especially the math ones, needed to be taught in more detail. Once I gave further explanations, then allowed my son to do the math learning activities, then all was well, and by the way, my son is cognitively gifted.
However, I found the Language Arts to be very thorough, and the Social Studies and Science to be adequate for a first grade child. At my son's grade level, I decided that him doing all of his school work on the computer was not a good idea anyway.
I cannot speak about the upper grade levels.
I hope this is helpful.
We have been using it for over the summer. It is pretty good. It does have additional resources with each lesson (worksheets, projects, etc) you really need to do the additional work to make it a complete curriculum. I also suggest extending the literature program and including a Latin or Greek program as well.
I have been using it for my 5th and 7th graders.
We use time4learning for our 7 y/o son. We find it to be a wonderful curriculum. If your child likes working on the computer he will love it as much as my son does. He enjoys the format and we like to see the instant feedback about his work.
We use T4L as one of our core curriculums. Some kids will need more drilling and you could use the printable resources or find other ways to supplement his needs. We use another curriculum at the same time and we also have tons of online resources.
T4L is well worth the money and is easy to use. It allows the child to work at his pace and skill level (within a 3 grade range). No, this is not one of those 'too good to be true' things at all.
My daughter loves this program. One postive thing about it is the instant feedback she recieves while doing the work. I presonally use it mainly for math and language arts. We do not use the science and history as much because they are not as in depth as I would like.
The math does not spend much time on one subject. I have a few old math books from the local school that I use to reinforce the concepts she is having trouble grasping.
I think it is a great program for the price.
