Home schooling programs? please everyone help!?

Question:does anyone else use the home school program k12 and if so how do you like it? its also known as Cova?

Answers:
We do not use a virtual academy with K12, but we do purchase the curriculum ourselves and use it as independent (Consumer Direct) customers. I just replied in your other question that K12 is AWESOME! On top of that COVA is one of their original VA's (PAVCS was the other) and they have a several years' experience (I believe this will be their 7th year). I went to a COVA expo in Denver in '04 and met, and worked with, a lot of the teachers. They all were so friendly and nice.

K12's curriculum is deep and broad. It's challenging, just so you know. Many students have been able to use the middle school courses as high school credit. My son is doing Physical Science now and it's deeper than the Physics and Chemistry I had in high school. Some of the content I didn't even have in college.

COVA has a very large enrollment throughout the state. If you live in a rural area (sounds like it from your other recent question), you may have to travel a bit to connect with others, but I would imagine you'd be able to find a lot of other COVA students to connect with.

I'm jealous that you live in CO ;-) We've pretty much visited every part of the state at least once. If we ever get a chance to move there, my son will enroll in COVA. I helped the two K12 virtual programs in Kansas get started and COVA was the schools' "mentor". They did a wonderful job! :-)
i'm sorry it doesn't seem that many people use that program... i personally haven't heard of it before... i studied under A Beka...

sorry to be of not much assistance...
My boys will be using that program this year, and it looks good. They will be in Ohva.
We use it through K12 California in CAVA. LOVE IT! My son has Autism/Aspergers syndrome and was behind grade level when we started. I love the program very much the field trips are great, CAVA Java Moms night out. In the last charter school we where in I was told not to bring Anthony to any field trips! CAVA lets the people in charge know what is going on and we are fine.
You can IM or e-mail me and I will answer any questions you have.
I have not (I'm not USA but wouldn't consider using it). If you are looking for a program that covers grades k-12 I would recommend using A2 www.accelerated-achievement. com . It's inexpensive, flexible and it creates independent learners. The yahoo group is great too ;)

I found that my daughter excelled at this curriculum. They have a forum with problems and questions on the curriculum. It is less expensive than most curriculum.
There is a difference between COVA, which is a virtual academy, and the K12 curriculum, which is a curriculum available to all sorts of on line programs, including independent homeschoolers. My family tried the K12 curriculum through a virtual public school here. We liked the curriculum for the most part, but would have made other choices in some areas. We hated the public school regulation and regimentation associated with the virtual school program. We are now homeschooling independently, and we still use some of the K12 materials.
