Homeschools?

Question:would anyone know any homeschools that let the parent actually teach..(.also non christian based) in north carolina?

Answers:
Some one has already said to google this site, but I'll send you the link below.
Yes, homeschooling is legal in NC. You can create your own curriculum. You can do this without money by using the library or with very little money by using the Internet,PBS programs, History Channel programs, and used books stores. (Internet has free sites but you have to pay for your connection.) You can get an education without sitting in a classroom and being taught by a person who is paid to teach you.
All people are self taught. We cannot learn anything unless we want to learn. We are blessed to live in this age where media and technology have made information within our reach.

I suppose you mean "umbrella school" or "correspondence school" because a homeschool would be your home if you are schooling your kids there.

I don't know the law in North Carolina, but I do know that you don't have to belong to an umbrella school in many states. If you just want a school to work under, check out http://www.clonlara.org They are based in Michigan but have students from around the world. They are accredited, and will let YOU run your homeschool.
They are non-religious, but will still work with people who wish to include religious classes such as Bible study, Koran, etc. They give you the choice in that as well.
The thing they are best known for is flexibility, and they are very popular with unschoolers.

To find out what you are, and are not required to do in North Carolina go to http://www.nche.com/law.html
Do you mean homeschool groups, or co ops? Or online schools? As a homeschool parent/teacher, you have control over what you teach. In some states you have to hold to the state standards, but you are allowed to present the information in your own way, to teach in your own way.

I'm not sure if I answered your question, but that's how I understood it?
Have you looked into Calvert or Laurel Springs? I am not aware of the laws in your state, but these two schools' curricula are both secular.

Are you asking about virtual public charter schools? They typically work with a "teaching parent" with a certified teacher from the school for oversight.

It doesn't appear that NC has any virtual programs. Calvert and K12, which are both secular, provide curriculum to the most popular virtual programs. You can also purchase their curriculums to use on your own (without public school oversight and funding).

We've used K12 for over four years as "independent" HS'ers and LOVE it. On their site, if you purchase it yourself, it's called "consumer direct". Yes, you do all the teaching, and it's up to you to decide if you want to skip lessons, how you want to set up your schedule, etc.

You might want to go to your state's HS association (even if it is Christian) to get info. You might also search Yahoo Groups for groups in your area. I know the NC K12 group is pretty popular, as there are a lot of users in the Raleigh area.
