Annual achievement testing and Charlotte Mason via AmblesideOnline?

Question:If I go with Charlotte Mason method for fourth grade, how will achievement testing fair? She does not believe in topic sentence, etc., -- YET -- plus she isn't using the regular scope and sequence (is she?). I'm JUST beginning to read on her, so if I'm wrong, PLEASE correct me! And, my biggest weakness is geography. Will that hurt me when we have to start looking at maps on our own, without a guide? As many wonderful things I keep hearing about CM, I'm worried that it will put me out there without a net?

Answers:
You need to consider your state's requirements first. If they are going to test her on specific things, you need to make sure those are a part of your program. That doesn't mean you can't follow the CM approach--you would just have to NOT use the Ambleside sequence and use things that will help you meet state requirements. You may have to look for extra resources to help you and all that, but you can still use the basic approach for most of the rest.

btw, got your message about the workbooks. By all means, if workbooks are your daughter's thing, have a few on hand! There are some great, cheap workbooks out there you can use as supplementary resources, which is what it sounds like you want to have them for, rather than the full program.
