Imperialism deals with being so power driven, that you want your country to dominate other nations. Nationalism is just simply being proud of your country.
Because they don't really know the definition of both terms, students often confuse imperialism with nationalism.
I assume because imperialistic countries stress nationalism to brainwash their citizens to believe they live in the best, most powerful country. For example, Japan in the '30s.
