What a coincidence.
I have been researching this very question for the last 14 years.
In my quest I have visited museums in just about every country in the world.
The Chinese were one of the first to use a pencil but not THE first.
In my quest I visited ancient caves in Peru where there are some remarkable drawings. Unlike those in other parts of the world which were drawn by scratching into the rock, the ones in Peru were actually drawn using a crude type of indelible pencil.
To cut a very long story short, it would appear that the very first person ever to use a pencil was a gentleman called Clive.
He lived in Brighton, England up to 1998. After that he moved to some ancient caves in Peru where he has spent the next 8 years doodling.
I will now spend the next 14 years on who was the first person ever to use a pen.
Good morning and may the force be with you. (Mainly the Air Force!)
