Explain this quote please?

Question:human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe- h.g. wells
what does it mean

Answers:
if ur serious, then i think the answer to that would be that as we educate ourselves and our species learns more about the world and all the things in it that we can take advantage of, we use them and technology advances- we are more likely to cause more damage and catastrophic events are likely to happen if the problem is not addressed before it's too late.

A prime example of this would be Global Warming. As our society learned how to use fossil fuels and polluted the air, we just used and used and now that our world is changing for the worse atmospherically, we are scrambling to learn a new way to change it back and keep the Earth from frying.

H.G. Wells was a forward thinking man and knew that all our usage of the pollutants would come back to bite us in the butt later. He knew that as we scoured our world of resources, we would regret our over-usage of them.

That's what it means to me. Hope it helps!
As time flows, you learn in your life . you face problems in your life
that cheesecake is not needed in today's society.
it means that as humans advance in knowledge the more we know the more damage we can cause, so life becomes a race of each country knowing how to cause more damage and leading to a life of catastophe
