*** gas or grass nobody rides for free?

Question:what does this phrase mean.

Literally, it means if you want a ride (a hitchhiker, for example) you are expected to provide either sexual favours (@ss), fuel (gas) or drugs (grass) in return. The larger meaning is probably along the lines of nothing in life comes without a price.
I'm really having a hard time understanding what you are talking about.
very simple, there are no free rides in life. You will pay for whatever you get in one way or the other.
its usuallly on like bumper stickers. either u give gas money (gas) or grass (Weed) in exchange for the ride
