Famous Quote Defenition?

Question:What does this quote mean... " When you have the opportunity, keep your mouth shut"

It means, when given the opportunity to put in your two cents (so to speak), keep your mouth shut instead... the quote is trying to make a point that when people open their mouths, it only gets them into trouble..

It's similar to one of my favorite quotes, which states:
"It is better to keep your mouth shut & to let people THINK you are ignorant, than to open your mouth and prove them right"

It means that if you open your mouth, more than likely you're going to say something ignorant and upsets someone around you, you're better off just not saying anything at all.
i have no clue
It means that you should avoid talking whenever you can get away with it. The idea is that by doing that you will avoid saying anything that will get you in trouble. Good night!
It's a different version of another quote:

"Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

Don't they teach you kids to think these days?
