Assistive technology consists of any tool that helps a person live a functional life. It can be low tech, like a notebook that they can write homework assignments in, it can be high tech, like a pda (which schools *could* provide, our high schools do for the kids with aspergers). It could be as simple as a wristwatch with an alarm to remind them to change activities, or as complicated as a computer program that emails reminders of important events from their online calendar (which I use, iCal).

What specific items do they need help remembering? Is it a high school student, elementary, college? Is it homework, social activities, med checks? What are the student's strengths? All must be considered before choosing which AT would be most effective. And it nearly always takes weeks of prompting and modeling for it to be used effectively. Good luck.
Using something as simple as computer programs is probably the easiest technology for a special student to access who has trouble with comprehension and memory issues. This is because the child gets repetition, and can repeat lessons multiple times in order to learn. I saw a statistic somewhere that said that an autistic child (moderate to low) needs to access information 400 times to put it to memory, where as a "regular" child only needs to hear it 8 times. That's quite significant.
