I am a big supporter of the Princeton Review books. They focus on the test's weakness and how to use this weakness to your advantage. I took AP Language & Composition last year and did quite well on the AP exam. My test-prep book was the Princeton Review as well as the Cliffsnotes. While Cliffsnotes is okay for practice tests, the Princeton Review book was excellent in providing insight in cracking the test and in the basics that will help you on test-day. Most of the technical stuff is discussed, but PR also gives you good tips and hints into the test-writers' minds.
The practice tests on the PR are pretty similar to the actual AP exam. I actually found the PR to be a bit more challenging than the AP exam, so, by the time I did take the exam, I was well-prepared.
Hope this helps!
Try the Cliff Notes book, the practice tests were pretty accurate.
