I've been hosting for 12 years now ... there is NO prohibition against dating from any program that I'm aware of. However, most organizations are very strong on no sex while the students are here. THAT can lead to a student being sent home. It's an automatic return trip if they become pregnant OR get someone else pregnant. To say nothing of the long term consequences of child support and/or child rearing for the next 18 years.
We tell the students we work with that dating is fine, but we would rather see them date a wide variety of people and not get too attached to a "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" while they are here. Because, in the end, they are going home and having a strong attachment such as that will make the leaving that much harder (it's hard enough as it is).
I would suggest getting to know her is just fine! Take her out and show her around, get her used to some fun American activities. But maybe stay with a crowd and try not to develop too close of a personal relationship.
Also, I'm just giving you an overall perspective. She is still subject to her host family's rules on dating and you will need to find out what those are.
Good luck and enjoy making a new friend.
of course not
remember though, she will eventually leave you to go back to france
Had a girl from Germany in my classes when I was in High School, she didn't have any rules about not being able to date. You want to get to know her, go for it. =)
I had 2 sisters that studied abroad... The older of the 2 went to France and I KNOW she dated... Go for it! Best Wishes!
Is she on a high school exchange program? Some programs don't encourage dating but. it's not something which would get her sent home, don't worry! It's really nothing more than a guideline and I can tell you that plenty of exchange students date whilst on exchange.
